Exploring alternative care options

There may come a time when you need to consider whether you can go on caring for the person at home.  Everyone is different, but you may reach this point if the person you are caring for:

  • Becomes incontinent of urine and faeces
  • Becomes immobile and you can no longer move him or her
  • Develops such unpredictable behaviour that you cannot cope on your own
  • Frequently falls and is in danger of getting badly hurt
  • Has been in hospital and is going to be discharged although he or she is not really well enough to be at home
  • Needs nursing care
  • Can no longer be cared for by you because of your own health
